Some Donald Trump supporters are claiming that he has survived an assassination attempt.

Here's what ACTUALLY happened.

At a rally in Reno, Nevada, Trump was waxing lyrical about his support from the Latino community.

So far, so demonstrably insane.

Trump thought he saw someone from the Clinton campaign holding a sign, and demanded that he be escorted from the rally.

Then, there was apparently a "commotion" (or "disturbance", "ruckus" or "scuffle", depending on your outlet of choice) right next to the podium.

According to reports, it began when someone in the audience shouted "Gun!"

Trump was hustled off the podium by two of his Secret Service detail.

Here's the official statement:

Immediately in front of the stage, an unidentified individual shouted 'gun.' Secret Service agents and Reno Police Officers immediately apprehended the subject.

Upon a thorough search of the subject and the surrounding area, no weapon was found.

- Secret Service statement

A man was tackled before being removed from the rally and held in the toilets inside the convention centre.

Somehow, this has become known as an "assassination attempt" on Trump.

Also according to Trump's own social media guru.

Many also used the incident as an excuse to paint a dubious comparison of the Presidential candidates.

Even, unsurprisingly, Trump's own son. Who, worryingly, spells Secret Service incorrectly.

Nobody has been charged or arrested for the incident, but an investigation into what actually happened is ongoing.

Nevertheless, it seems unlikely this was an assassination attempt, of any kind.

Here's the response from The Donald himself.
