Today, Donald Trump did something that he doesn't usually do. No, it's not admitting that he is a bad president or telling the truth.

Instead, the president of the United States went on a foul-mouthed Twitter rant about the Mueller report into Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election.

The series of tweets come after the report revealed that Trump had tried to obstruct justice and that his aides had ignored his orders.

The ellipsis at the end of the tweet suggested that Trump was going to continue his rant but after more than an hour he still hadn't posted a follow-up.

That being said it is unusual to see Trump use such strong language on Twitter, with his cursing usually reserved for words like 'loser' or 'rat'.

Trump does swear in public from time to time, especially at rallies but using a word like 'bulls**t' is unprecedented and is thought to be the first example of a sitting president swearing on Twitter.

As of late though, Republicans have been getting themselves in fits about Democrats using similar language to that which Trump just used.

At the start of January, Rep. Rashida Tlaib found herself being heavily criticised by Republicans after she pledged to "impeach that motherf**ker."

The likes of Kevin McCarthy and Liz Cheney, immediately found themselves applauded by this sort of language, which is ironic given the latter's father once told a Senator to 'go f**k himself.'

Other Democrats that have been criticised for swearing include Tom Perez, Kirsten Gillibrand and Kamala Harris.

Elsewhere, the Fox News anchor, Laura Ingraham has made disapproving comments about the celebrity Chrissy Teigen after she was named as one of Time magazine's '100 most influential people.'

According to Ingraham the model shouldn't be on such a list because she, like pretty much anyone else, including the president, sometimes swears.

Even Trump himself has found himself being offended by strong language or at least claims to have never uttered a swear word.

In November 2016, just days before the election, Trump made remarks about the lyrics of rapper Jay-Z after the musician appeared on stage with Hillary Clinton.

Speaking to crowds at a rally in Tampa, Florida, Trump said:

I actually like Jay Z, but the language last night, ohhhh … I was thinking, maybe I’ll just try — should I use that language for one of mine?

Can you imagine if I said that? So, he used every word in the book … last night. He used language last night that was so bad, and then Hillary said, ‘I did not like Donald Trump’s lewd language.’

My lewd language? … I’ve never said what he said in my life! But that shows you the phoniness of politicians.

Let's not forget the time that Kanye West literally said 'crazy mother f**ker' in the Oval Office either.

Meanwhile, reaction to Trump's latest tweet has been that of shock and bewilderment.
