From 1 January 2016 licensed firearms owners in Texas will be able to openly carry a handgun in most public places.
The existing law requires licensed gun owners to keep their handguns concealed and out of sight. Because, you know, not everyone wants to see a weapon when they're doing the weekly shop.
However, the new law will permit owners to carry their gun in plain view, openly in a belt or shoulder holster.
The move comes just months after president Obama for greater gun control in the wake of the Umpqua Community College shooting in Oregon in October.
I hope and pray that I don't have to come out again during my tenure as president to offer my condolences to families in these circumstances. But based on my experience as president, I can't guarantee that. And that's terrible to say.
The statistics are not in his favour.
A 2013 study by two New York based cardiologists which examined rates of firearm deaths in 27 developed countries using World Health Organisation data from 2010 found the US had the highest rate of gun deaths.
