Mike Huckabee is not happy with the Iran nuclear deal, and has made his views known with possibly the worst choice of wording, ever.

During an interview with Breitbart News over the weekend, the former governor of Arkansas and seemingly perennial Republican presidential candidate had accused the Obama administration of being “naive” on foreign policy. The former Arkansas governor said:

This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians.

By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.

That’s the man you want in charge of defusing tense international quarrels.

MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski was so shocked when she first heard the comments that she could not respond, although she later issued a statement:

If you’ve been to Auschwitz, if you’ve been to Birkenau, if you’ve been to any of these places where people were killed and you see the piles of glasses, the piles of hair, the piles of shoes and the piles of clothes, and every bit of their humanity that had to be stripped away, handed over as they went and burned to their deaths among other things, it’s really not a good comment to say.

It’s a deal breaker! It should be over for him. You don’t say that. And by the way, if you said it by mistake, that’s a sign of who you really are.

That’s all I have to say. You wanted me to say it on the air. I just did.

What may be even worse than Huckabee's comments, is that upon seeing his rival dominate the outrage news headlines of the day, Donald Trump sought to reclaim the ground he sees as his own.

The Trump camp’s special counsel, Michael Cohen, leapt to tell CNN that they supported Huckabee’s sentiment.

What Trump is trying to say is a nuclear Iran is the destruction of this world.

What we need is a strong America. if you have a strong America you have a strong world. If we have a weak America, we have a weak world.

I'm not offended by the words, what I am is I'm concerned. I'm truly concerned for the safety of not just this country but the countries all around the world.

It appears the Republican candidates are now not running for presidency, but for who can set international cooperation 20 years back the fastest.

Speaking from Kenya, President Barack Obama responded pithily to the Republican criticisms:

The particular comments of Mr Huckabee are, I think, part of just a general pattern that we’ve seen would be considered ridiculous if it weren’t so sad.

When you get rhetoric like this maybe it gets attention, maybe this is just an attempt to push Mr Trump out of the headlines, but it’s not the kind of leadership that’s needed for America right now.
