The majority of the UK public appear to support more nuclear energy

Fifty-seven per cent of people support the construction of future nuclear power plants, a snap poll has revealed.

The YouGov Daily online poll showed that a majority supported construction, while 26 per cent opposed future construction.

However, 62 per cent of the public opposed Chinese investment into a future plant at Hinkley Point.

Do you think the UK government is right or wrong to want Chinese investment rather than paying the full cost itself?

EDF Energy reached an agreement earlier in the week with the China General Nuclear Power Corporation for a nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point in Somerset.

The deal was confirmed at a news conference by Prime Minister David Cameron and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The CGN will pay £6bn of the final cost for the plant, which is estimated to be £18bn.
