Man who threw milkshake at Tommy Robinson is now receiving death threats

The 23-year-old man who threw a milkshake over the right-wing founder of the English Defence League Tommy Robinson last week has said he's received death threats.

Anti-fascist protestor Danyaal Mahmud has revealed he fears for his safety after he was targeted when a video showing him attacking Robinson with a McDonald's strawberry milkshake went viral online.

The incident occurred while Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was out campaigning in Warrington, Cheshire, on Thursday, and began talking to the young man.

Mr Mahmud said he threw the milkshake over Robinson as an 'instant reaction' after he'd been approached by him and shouted at by others earlier in the day, reports the Metro.

In the interview with the Guardian, Mahmud said:

I’m a low-key person, I didn’t anticipate this publicity and I don’t want it – I’m getting death threats on social media and I am worried about me and my family being targeted.

He added:

I said to him [Robinson] I do not wish to speak to you on or off camera. I just got annoyed with him. A milkshake ‘slipped’ out of my hand.

Mahmud also made it clear that he's got a sense of humour, telling the Guardian:

I’d be willing to bury the hatchet with Tommy.

I guess we could shake on it.
