Harry Styles has revealed the naughty meaning behind his hugely popular song “Watermelon Sugar”.
While on his Love On Tour in Nashville, 27-year-old Styles teased his audience about the song’s meaning, saying: “This song is about… it doesn’t really matter what it’s about.”
He then added: “It’s about, uh, the sweetness of life.”
The crowd began to cheer as the opening bars of the Grammy-winning song began.
He moved around the stage singing along with the crowd before laughing: “It’s also about the female orgasm.”
The audience screamed, and he added: “But that’s totally different, it’s not really relevant.”
Up until his Nashville date the singer had remained tight-lipped about the song’s meaning.
Fans had already guessed the song had a saucy meaning, with Urban Dictionary revealing that the term “watermelon sugar” refers to oral sex. However it can also be used to refer to heroin, according to the online slang dictionary.
Fans have also guessed that the song was written for his ex-girlfriend Camille Row who once mentioned during an interview that she loved the 1968 book In Watermelon Sugar.
People took to Twitter to share their excitement about having their hunch proven true:
Styles’ tour kicked off last month in Las Vegas and since, he paused a gig to do a dramatic gender reveal, and also dished out some dating advice to one of his fans.
