Woman pays for dinner of loud homophobic family - but not for the reason you might think

A woman’s message of support to a young man coming out to his close-minded family has gone viral.

Natalie Woods was having dinner at a restaurant in Addison, Texas, with a friend when she heard a family behind her talk of their "'awful, gay, nephew,' that they need to pray for".

She told Indy100 what happened:

We were at a place called Snuffers when the man behind me started speaking very loudly about how disgusted he is with his gay nephew and how he is ruining his life. He went on to say other terrible things about this kid.

I sat there enraged but knew that my spouting off hate to this man wouldn't solve anything. I felt sorry for his nephew, and quite frankly I felt sorry for this man and the people he was with.

I bought their dinner because I wanted to actually act like the Jesus I grew up learning about. I wanted to show them love, but also say the truth, so I wrote on the receipt that the waitress gave to them.

Woods then posted a photo of the receipt to Facebook to raise awareness further.

She wrote:

Happy Holidays from the very gay, very liberal table sitting next to you. Jesus made me this way. Ps Be accepting of your family.

She told us:

The response has been shocking and overwhelming. I didn't pay off their mortgage or save a child’s life, I just bought their dinner.

After the election in this country and with how divided people are, I wanted to show an act of love.
