Meghan Markle gave her autograph to a shop worker in 2009 ‘in case she became famous’

Meghan Markle “gave a shop assistant her autograph in 2009” before being cast in Suits “in case she ever became famous”, claims a post on Instagram.

According to an Instagram account Overheard Celebs, which shares details of celebrity meetings, a user named Julie met the future Duchess of Sussex while at work in Vancouver, before Markle hit the big time as Rachel Zane in Suits.

Apparently, Meghan bought a handbag and told Julie she was an actress before Julie asked for an autograph “in case she ever got famous”.

The caption of the post read, “I met a sweet woman in 2009 while working retail when she purchased a purse from me.”

“We got to chatting, and she mentioned she was an actress currently filming in Vancouver.”

“I didn’t think much of it, but I asked if I could have her autograph so I could say I had it before she was famous. She chuckled and said, ‘yes, of course.’”

“I wished her luck and never saw her again. Two years later, I flipped on my TV to see her starring in Suits.”

“I was really happy her dreams came true. And just when I thought being on a successful TV show was cool, she then ended up marrying into one of the most famous families in the world, becoming the Duchess of Sussex.

“I’ll treasure Meghan’s note forever.”

In 2009, Markle had a few guest-starring roles, on shows like 90210, CSI and Knight Rider. She also had a 36 episode run as “Suitcase Girl” on the American version of Deal or No Deal.

It is thought that this encounter took place during her filming Fringe, the JJ Abram show. As it wasn’t until 2011, she got her role as Rachel Zane.
