Dad explains what was really going on during that viral interview

Professor Robert Kelly was conducting a video interview with the BBC about the impeachment of South Korean President Park Geun-hye, when his four year old daughter Marion, and then his eight-month old son James made their way into the room.

The clip had all the makings of a viral sensation: cute children? Check. Surprise reaction? Check. Awkwardness in-situ? Check.

Some people incorrectly assumed that the woman in the video was his nanny:

Well, Professor Kelly and his wife Jung-a Kim have come out to clarify a few things...

First of which is, Jung-a Kim is not the nanny.

While the video was funny, Professor Kelly was worried that his children’s impromptu interruption cost him any further relationship with the BBC:

We were worried actually that the BBC would never call us again. That was our first response – mortification that we had completely blown our relationship with you.

Four-year-old Marion, the first child who had clambered in, had been celebrating her birthday earlier that day and was in a “hippity hoppity” mood. Her mum was in the other room, recording her husband's interview, and had not noticed her absence. It wasn't until their son James ambled in, that she rushed after them.

Kelly added that the assumption that his wife was a nanny made him feel “uncomfortable”.

Kim on the other hand, was laid back about the whole thing:

I hope people just enjoy it and don’t argue over this thing. I’m not the nanny – that’s the truth – so I hope they stop arguing.

Well, there you have it!
