The responses to '#LondonHasFallen' will restore your faith in Britain

London has voted in a Muslim as its leader, meaning that it joins Rotterdam in the club of major European cities with Muslim mayors.

Sadiq Khan, Labour MP for Tooting, is the new Mayor of London, by public support, but a lot of people can't seem to get over the fact that he is Muslim.

While a lot of the political and social commentary surrounding Khan's faith and upbringing has been positive, others are attempting to denounce him in any way they can.

On Twitter, the hashtag #LondonHasFallen was hijacked by Khan's opponents.

Many seem to be using the phrase - also the title of a terrible film about terrorism that came out earlier this year - to tweet racist thoughts.

The result is essentially just a big pile of nonsense.

Few of the tweets are coherent and fewer still hold any substance whatsoever

Fortunately, the majority of Londoners aren't raving lunatics.

There are far more looking to reverse the negativity, demonstrating that London isn't full of racists, but is actually a diverse and unified place.

People are making jokes out of the hashtag, or simply denouncing it.

Let's leave the mess of a hashtag there.
