There is no easy way to help someone who is trying to come to terms of being the victim of a sexual assault.
Yet, the least anyone can do is be there for the other person and offer the best kind of support and love that they can.
It's certainly not advisable to take to social media (and Reddit of all places) to ask people whether you should leave your partner because they have been a victim of rape.
Taking to the notorious 'am I the a**hole?' subreddit, a user going by the named of Calinylo00 shared a story about her boyfriend which had made her see him in another light.
The 20-year-old claimed that she had recently discovered that her 24-year-old partner had been raped multiple times by his stepbrother when he was just 11-years-old.
She said that upon telling her he was very upset, that she eventually calmed him down but, on reflection, her image of him being a tall, muscular and dominant man had been shattered by this revelation.
She added that she now feels 'weird' whenever he tries to contact her and that she is no longer attracted to him, despite her friends encouraging her to carry on dating him.
It's almost inconceivable that someone would even contemplate breaking up with their partner on these grounds but this is something that was actually posted on the internet.
The response was almost 100 per cent of condemnation for the girl for even thinking that this was a valid reason for ending a relationship.
