The enforcement of gender roles in society is deeply ingrained, which can often cause problems.

Despite much progress in eroding gender norms in discussions of parenting, there is still a long way to go before men and women are seen equally as parents

Because of this, women still bear the brunt of child care and housework. Though there are plenty of single fathers and gay couples raising children, as well as straight men carrying the majority of traditional parenthood duties.

Yet men’s spaces still don’t reflect this. In 2018, most men's bathrooms still don't have changing tables.

Father of three Donte Palmer is all too familiar with this problem, and recently posted a photo on Instagram highlighting the lack of changing tables in men’s spaces.

He wrote:

This is a serious post!!! What’s the deal with not having changing tables in men’s bathroom as if we don’t exist!! #FLM #fatherslivesmatter clearly we do this often because look how comfortable my son is. It’s routine to him!!!!

Let’s fix this problem! I Kaepernick drop a knee to this issue! @theshaderoom let’s show the innovation of fathers!

The post quickly went viral and garnered solidarity from other dads facing the same issues.

He told Yahoo Lifestyle that his son often helps him change his children.

People have commented that my wife is ‘lazy’ for not changing our baby’s diaper or that I could have changed him in the car but why should I?

Many fathers are present caretakers but either we don’t get recognition or get too much credit for doing basic tasks.

With more fathers taking on parenting duties traditionally associated with women, hopefully this will change soon.
