How to tell if your new £10 is actually worth thousands

There's a new £10 note coming out this week, featuring literary legend Jane Austen.

Now, you might scoff and think 'big deal' - but the launch of a brand new note might mean you end up with a small fortune.

Each note, which will also feature the quote, “I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading,” from Pride and Prejudice, will also have a serial number.

And this serial number could be worth a lot more than just a tenner.

Those with serial numbers starting with AA will be popular with collectors, according to Changerchecker.com.

Serial numbers starting with AA01 are worth keeping hold of, as this is the first line that will be printed. You should also keep an eye out for: JA01, as these are Austen's initials, JA75, because this is Austen’s birth year and JA17, which is the year of Jane Austen’s death.

But, Change Checker writes:

Whilst these will likely become popular with collectors in the future, it could be many years before notes with these serial numbers enter circulation due to the huge amount of possible combinations that would come before ‘JA’.

It also advises looking out for:

• Serial numbers 16 121775 and 18 071817, which would represent Austen's date of birth and death respectively.
• Serial number 17 751817, which includes her birth and death year combined.
• And  28 011813, because this is the date her novel Pride and Prejudice was first published.
