Brexit may mean Brexit, but thankfully it also means memes.

Chancellor Philip Hammond looks set to find this out the hard way after the annual “chancellor working hard before the budget statement” photo set hit the internet.

This year’s photo set features Hammond reading his budget statement while sipping on a mug emblazoned with his own name. Because that was never going to be a bad idea, was it?

The responses came in thick and fast.

Apparently, the mugs are designed by Emma Bridgewater and sent to all cabinet ministers.

This isn’t the first time that a chancellor has fallen victim to a photo-op. Former chancellor George Osborne faced ridicule when photos were released of him signing his computer printed name with an ink pen.
