On Friday, Buckingham Palace announced His Royal Highness Prince Phillip The Duke of Edinburgh had passed away at the age of 99.

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss,” read a palace statement.

As a result of the tragic news, many radio stations decided to switch to sad music, and television personalities opted to wear black on news broadcasts to pay their respects.

The BBC also decided to cancel all non-news programming for the day and will air special programs regarding the late prince.

ITV News will also broadcast continuous coverage throughout the afternoon to honor the Duke of Edinburgh’s unique contributions to British history, service to the Queen, and the monarchy.

At 9pm BST, ITV will also air the documentary Prince Phillip: A Royal Life, followed by extending news coverage at 10 pm BST.

But while many people worldwide were mourning a man who had given so much service to the country, others seemed to be more worried that they would miss their favorite cooking show.

The highly anticipated BBC One’s reality cooking show MasterChef was due to air the final tonight but has been rescheduled following the news.

Here’s what some people had to say about the matter.

Despite the various opinions, we cannot deny the duke’s legacy. He was known for his quick wit and off-the-cuff remarks and was also one of the hardest-working royals. Since 1952, he has attended over 22,000 solo engagements and 637 overseas tours in his career.
