On Tuesday, April 20, the White House said it is now “strongly supporting” Washington, DC gaining statehood.

The administration is endorsing the H.R. 51 WashingtonDC Admission Act, a bill that states, “ the commonwealth shall be admitted to the Union on an equal footing with the other states.”

To solidify the bill, Democrats would need the support of at least 10 GOP senators in order to get a DC statehood bill without obstructing the 60-vote filibuster.
