Boris Johnson has just lost his majority in parliament after one of his backbench MPs switched party.
Dr Phillip Lee, the MP for Bracknell, walked across the House of Commons chamber during Johnson’s speech and sat with Liberal Democrats (his new party).

Lee also released a statement with his defection, in which he accused the Conservatives of becoming “infected with the twin diseases of populism and English nationalism”.
