Netflix star, stand-up comedian and screenwriter Beth Stelling has shared a disturbing yet empowering post detailing her experience of an abusive relationship.
Comedians are known for breaking down taboos and sharing intimate stories about their lives. From suicides to illnesses, nothing is off limits to some.
Stelling has bravely shared a photo her body after being physically abused by her ex-boyfriend.
In her post, she wrote:
I feel stupid. After being verbally, physically abused and raped, I dated him for two more months. It's not simple.
But after breaking the toxic relationship off, she began discussing it in her comedy routine.
Already since talking about this onstage, many women have come to me after shows asking me to keep doing it. Men have shown their solidarity.
Stelling has been able to warn other people about the abuser by being so outspoken, but also empower abuse survivors to tell their stories.
