Denzel and Pauletta Washington's son schools a reporter for ignoring his mother's achievements

John David Washington, son of Denzel and Pauletta Washington, made sure a reporter knew exactly who both of his parents are during a television interview.

34 year-old actor John David corrected interviewer Craig Melvin after he asked what it was like growing up surrounded by show business, but referred only to his Oscar-winning father Denzel.

John David quickly interrupted the reporter, who asked him about “being the son of Denzel Washington”, to sing his mother’s praises.

Highlighting his mother’s considerable achievements, he said:

She was earning more money than he was before they got married. She was on Broadway working and she paid for the first date, paid the bill, paid for the cab ride...

She’s a classically-trained pianist, went to Julliard. She’s a great artist in her own right and I learned a lot from her.

My father taught me how to hunt, my mother taught me how to love.

Denzel and Pauletta have been married for more than 35 years, disproving the stereotype that all Hollywood marriages are destined for disaster. The pair have certainly succeeded in raising a son who’s not afraid to stand up for what he believes in.
