It's the question you never knew you wanted to be answered; Sarah Sanders is going to ask Donald Trump if he believes in aliens or not.

This is where US politics is at in the tail end of 2017. As per a request from the Fourth Estate, the White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has said she will ask the 45th President of the United States to clarify his stance on extraterrestrials.

During the White House press briefing yesterday. The Hill journalist Jordan Fabian asked Sanders about a recent report from The New York Times concerning a secret $22 million government programme which allegedly collected video and audio recordings of UFOs and potential aliens between 2008 and 2011.

'Aliens' as in little green men, not the people Mr Trump is keen to deport.

Anyway, Fabian asks: "Does the president believe in the existence of UFOs and would he be interested in restoring funding for that programme?"

To which Sanders replies:

Somehow that questions hasn't come up in our back-and-forth over the last couple of days, but I will check into that and be happy to circle back.

So looks like we could get a nice early Christmas present in the new few days - insight into what Trump thinks about UFOs. The truth, after all, is out there.

We think we can save Sanders a bit of legwork, though. This tweet from 2014 suggests Trump not only believes in extraterrestrial life, he's also predicted they'll end up benefiting from American aid payments.

More: Sarah Sanders somehow managed to own herself when trying to defend Trump.
