The six most common reasons why people fake orgasms

It might be one of the oldest questions in the world, why do people fake orgasms?

Three in four women and two in five men have faked an orgasm.

But why? Scientists at the University of Kansas are trying to shed some light on to why-oh-why so many people fake it.

According to the study, the top six reasons are:

• it feels good
• it’s for their partner
• they’re not into sex
• for manipulation and power
• they’re insecure
• for emotional communication

The new paper, published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, distinguishes itself from previous studies by focusing on the reasons people fake it, rather than how often they do.

Researchers also found that 76 per cent of women have faked an orgasm at least once, as had 41 per cent of men.
