Here's why there were hot air balloons above London this morning

Londoners were treated to a rare sight this morning as a flotilla of hot air balloons made its way across the capital.

More than 50 balloons made the trip from Shoreditch Park to Gravesend as part of the Lord Mayor's Appeal, which this year is supporting Scope and Mencap.

Lord Mayor Alderman Roger Gifford was himself among those in the balloons, which have not been seen above London in such numbers in 22 years.

Lovely.
