I'm not Jesus, Jeb Bush appears to admit as he defends Iraq War question mistake

Jeb Bush has not had a good week.

Because he wants to follow his brother George W Bush and father George HW Bush into the White House, and because both those men authorised military operations in Iraq, he has faced a lot of questions about what he would have done in their situation.

And he's botched almost every response.

First on Fox News, the former governor of Florida was asked if he would have invaded Iraq in 2003 "knowing what we know now". Incredibly, he said "yes".

The following day, on Fox News presenter Sean Hannity's radio show, he said the question was "hypothetical" and impossible to answer. Later, Bush said that the question itself did a "disservice" to those who died in the war.

Finally, three days after his stumble on Fox News, he said: "Knowing what we know now, I would not invade."

The explanation for this strange inability to answer a straightforward question - one which would quite obviously be asked at some point during the campaign? He's not Jesus.

He told reporters in Iowa:

We're all going to make mistakes. If you're looking for a perfect candidate, he probably existed 2,000 years ago.

Right...
