Haruki Murakami, the bestselling, cross-continental author, didn’t publish his first book until he was 30 years old.

This is the mantra I repeat to myself on the days I don’t get out of bed until the afternoon. No doubt you have a similar one you tell yourself.

But now, Anna Vital from infographic generator tool Adioma, has collated these successful late bloomers, for those of us who need reminding that life doesn’t always have to feel on track.

In the infographic titled “Lost in Life?” you can see that:

  • Until the age of 52, Ray Kroc sold paper cups and milkshake mixers. Then he founded McDonalds
  • Ang Lee was an unemployed house husband until the age of 31, when he became a film director
  • J. K. Rowling was a single mother on welfare until the age of 31

But there's more where that came from:

  • Charles Darwin was 50 when he published "On the origin of the species"
  • Stan Lee, the brains behind the Marvel Universe, was 38 when he created the Fantastic Four
  • Vera Wang didn’t enter the fashion industry until she was 40
  • Momofuku Ando invented instant ramen noodles at the age of 48
