Kayla Mueller was not the last American hostage in the Middle East

Kayla Mueller, the US aid worker whose death was confirmed today, was thought to be the last American hostage held by Isis.

However the White House told journalists today there is at least one other American hostage being held in the Middle East, although press secretary Josh Earnest did not specify in which country and if their captors were Isis extremists. Earnest declined to comment further.

AP notes the family of Austin Tice, a journalist who disappeared in Damascus in August 2012, held a news conference in Washington last week about his case.
