Megan Rapinoe might have announced that she's not going to visit Donald Trump at the 'f****** White House', however, the tables might be turned if she hypothetically ran against him.
According to a poll released Tuesday by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, 604 registered voters would prefer to have Rapinoe as their president over Trump in 2020. Despite this, Rapinoe only won by a small margin, with 42 per cent to Trump's 41 per cent.
Releasing the figures, they said:
We found that Rapinoe gets 42% to 41% for Trump.
For context to the figures, 46 per cent of respondents voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, and 42 per cent voted for Trump. Further, women made up 53 per cent of the polled, while men made up 47 per cent, reports Record Searchlight.
Although Rapinoe "may be an unlikely presidential candidate", PPP said, her numbers:
still speak to a broader truth about Trump’s standing – the fact that he polls in the low 40s against any Democrat … shows that electability concerns are overrated.
The poll also added that Democrats:
should feel comfortable voting for the candidates they like the best, not just the ones they think have the best chance of beating Trump.
The firm also said that the support she's been shown has a real-life lesson: that perceived "electability" might not be so important in the 2020 presidential election, reports Record Searchlight.
This isn't the first time the idea of Rapinoe for president has been floated. After the soccer star capped an outstanding Women's World Cup performance by scoring a penalty on Sunday taking the USA to victory over the Netherlands 2-0 in Lyon to win their first title, many people made the suggestion on Twitter.
Well, we for one stan OUR president.
