Meghan Markle just gave birth to a baby boy and people are losing it

It's official, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has given birth to a baby boy, and it goes without saying that people online have been losing it.

It is understood that the Duchess, who is 37, went into labour this morning, and gave birth with her husband by her side. A name for the baby will be announced in due course.

Speaking from Windsor, the Duke of Sussex said:

I'm very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy this morning - a very healthy baby boy.

He also lavished praise on his wife, saying the couple are 'absolutely thrilled':

It was amazing. Absolutely incredible. I'm so proud of my wife.

It's been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined.

How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension. But we're both absolutely thrilled.

We're both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there, it's been amazing, so we just wanted to share this with everybody.

The couple also shared the news on their official Instagram account, with the message:

We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.

The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.

It goes without saying that people on social media have been expressing their excitement at the news.

The baby is understood to be around a week overdue, with the Duchess said to have been feeling 'comfortable and content' as she waited in her new home at Frogmore Cottage with her husband Prince Harry and her mother Doria Ragland at her side, reports the Telegraph.

Buckingham Palace has also welcomed the news of the healthy baby's birth. In a statement, they said:

The baby weighs 7lbs 3oz. The Duke of Sussex was present for the birth.

The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news.

The Duchess's mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage.

Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.
