Animal rights campaign organisation PETA are known for their outlandish publicity seeking tactics.
After years of dousing fur-loving celebrities with flour, the group has now taken the fight to social media. Last month PETA even compared dairy drinkers to white supremacists. Though its latest tweet is raising more than a few eyebrows.
The group has said that we must remove “speciesism” from our daily conversations in order to promote “social justice”. Examples of this language include well known phrases like “kill two birds with one stone”.
To make matters worse, PETA then compared this “speciesism” to racist or homophobic language.
Naturally, given the overt ridiculousness of this statement, people are not impressed. Many have accused PETA of making a mockery of racist or homophobic language.
A Peta spokesperson told indy100:
Words matter, and as our understanding of social justice evolves, our language evolves along with it. Just as it became unacceptable to use racist, homophobic, or ableist language, phrases that trivialize cruelty to animals will vanish as more people begin to appreciate animals for who they are and start 'bringing home the bagels' instead of the bacon.
