Prince Charles’ former butler appears to be stuck in the pre-Pankhurst days.

Grant Harrold, who is known as The Royal Butler tweeted a sentiment that seems to have come out of the turn of the century (not the most recent one, the other one).

Gentlemen, let’s remember that a Lady never looks at the bill.

People on the internet decided to unpack the many, many things that needed to be unpacked in that statement.

Some people thought the idea that one person was treating another on a date was sweet, but the sexism...was not

Others thought it was just plain sexist

What is a "lady?"

A woman of "high social position or economic class?" Elizabeth Benett, you pay for your own meals.

And logistically, how would the man make sure the lady didn't see the bill?

And...what about women in same-sex relationships? Is it a dine and dash type deal? And gay men - do they rumble for paying rights?
