Bollywood actress told she is 'not Muslim' on Instagram for wearing a bikini

Sara Khan, a Muslim actress from India, has sparked fury after she posed in a bikini for pictures that were later posted on Instagram.

The 29-year-old who was only holiday in Goa and Dubai when the photos were taken. She tagged the photo with the caption 'haters are confused admirers'.

The response to the image saw critics claim that she was not a 'true Muslim' and 'not a white girl'.

One of the strongest worded criticisms told her to change her religion:

Change your religion do whatever then shame on u Sara you was my inspiration but now I hate you Allah will give you punishment for this shame on you [sic].

However, others have defended her choice of clothing and complimented her.

Khan is yet to respond directly to the criticism, but The Metro reports that she has previously addressed trolls in a statement on the website.

She is quoted as saying:

We respect each one of you. We respect your thoughts, we respect what you feel but you guys should respect us too. We don’t do any wrong purposely.

Khan who is best known in India for her role in the soap opera Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai but has also appeared on the country's version of Big Brother.
