Sky News reporter tweets worst responses to her refugee film

A journalist has been tweeting the least sympathetic responses to an eye-opening film she made crossing the Mediterranean with Syrian refugees aboard a dinghy.

Alex Crawford, a special correspondent for Sky News who received an OBE in 2012 and was named Journalist of the Year on four occasions by the Royal Television Society, has been quoting the replies to her footage on Twitter, and responding to them directly.

In the film she accompanies Syrian refugees from Izmir to the Greek island of Lesbos, first showing the smuggling to the coast in cattle trucks, and the subsequent attempt to cross the Turkish channel in an inflatable boat.

During the crossing, the Turkish coastguard open fire above the inflatable craft and steer close to it to attempt to prevent the crossing.
