Stormzyis funding the place of two Cambridge students from minority backgrounds, prompting many to argue that the singer is doing more for young black people than the recent #KnifeFree campaign from the Home Office.

The rapper has announced that he will cover the tuition fees for two additional black Cambridge University undergraduate students for the duration of their degrees.

He will also continue to cover the cost for the first two recipients of the Stormzy Scholarship, who are now in their second year of study.

Announcing the second year of the scheme, Stormzy said: “There are so many young black kids all over the country who have the level of academic excellence to study at a university such as Cambridge - however we are still under-represented at leading universities.”

We, as a minority, have so many examples of black students who have excelled at every level of education throughout the years. I hope this scholarship serves as a small reminder that if young black students wish to study at one of the best universities in the world, then the opportunity is yours for the taking - and if finding is one of the barriers, then we can work towards breaking that barrier down.

Many are praising Stormzy’s proactive approach to tackling inequality, and compare it to the Home Office’s recent controversial campaign to print #knifefree on thousands of fried chicken boxes.

It has been dubbed “crude, offensive and racist” by critics.

Diane Abbot, MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, said the grime artist is doing more for “urban kids” than the government.

Others agreed with Abbot

And they're calling on Stormzy to enter politics...

Whilst the criticism for the boxes continue

The identity of the students who received the scholarship are not being disclosed in order for them to live normal lives, but Stormzy follows their progress.
