Meet 26-year-old Dan Middleton who, according to Forbes, is worth an eye-watering $16.5 million.

He went from a Tesco in Aldershot to being a YouTube gamer with over 16 million subscribers.

On his account, DanTDM, Middleton plays a variety of games including Pokemon, Sonic and Super Mario, but his speciality is Minecraft.

His most popular video, which is a compilation of his adventures in the world building game, has racked up over 40 million views at the time of writing.

As professional YouTubers can earn a reported 68 per cent of advertising profits from the site, Middleton is believed to have earned an unbelievable £12.3m from his videos in 2017 alone.

This makes him YouTube's richest creator.

Middleton, who married his girlfriend Jemma in 2013, recently embarked on an epic 97 date live world tour which included a stop at the Sydney Opera House.

He managed to become the second fastest-selling show in the history of the venue.

Despite his videos being viewed over 10 billion times in total Middleton has remained humble and says he will not let success go to his head.

He told The Mirror:

It's something I was just not prepared for at all.

It’s something I’ve slowly been learning about in the past three or four years.

In the past five years YouTube has evolved. Being a YouTuber was not a thing before.

I know people that make similar content to me who are 30 or 40 years old so I don’t think there is an age limit to it at all.
