The sorry state of Britain's local roads is the No 1 gripe among drivers, a report published today has found.

Here are the top 10 issues which most concern motorists, according to the RAC:

1. Condition and maintenance of local roads

2. Cost of fuel

3. Drivers texting/using the internet at the wheel

4. Drivers under the influence of alcohol

5. Drivers talking on phones without using a hands-free kit

6. People driving cars without tax or insurance

7. Cost of car insurance

8. Number of accidents on the road

9. Congestion on the roads

10. Drivers breaking traffic laws
