This is what it's like to be a woman in New York

Update: [The actress who starred in the video is now receiving rape threats online]1

Shoshana Roberts spent 10 hours walking through New York in silence, dressed in black jeans and a T-shirt.

Rob Bliss walked in front of her with a GoPro camera in his backpack, to catalogue the harassment she received. This is what happened:

Rob, a director inspired by his girlfriend's experiences, and Shoshana, an actress, volunteered to make this video to highlight the issue of harassment for Hollaback!.

While making it, Shoshana was subject to more than 100 instances of verbal harassment - as well as winks and whistles.

I’m harassed when I smile and I’m harassed when I don’t. I’m harassed by white men, black men, latino men. Not a day goes by when I don’t experience this.

  • Shoshana

Hollaback! notes: "It’s important to keep in mind that is this video only captures verbal harassment, and Rob and Shoshana can attest to the harassment overall falling evenly along race and class lines."
