On Wednesday, official impeachment enquiries began against Donald Trump as the House Intelligence Committee held it's first hearing of the process.
Obviously there will be a lot of hot air and contentious things over the coming weeks, maybe months and it won't shock you to learn that it has already started.
Republican senator Jim Jordan, a Trump loyalist from Ohio, in the first session demanded that the whistleblower, who reported that Trump had attempted to have Ukrainian officials interfere in the US election, was revealed and brought in for questioning.
Speaking at the hearing, Jordan said:
There is one witness that they won't bring in front of us and they won't bring in front of the American people.Â
That's the guy that started it all. The whistleblower.Â
In a near-perfect response to this statement. Peter Welch a Democratic senator from Vermont, shut down Jordan's wild comment in effortless fashion.
Welch said:
Thank you. I'd say to my colleague, I'd be glad to have the person who 'started it all' come in and testify.
President Trump is welcome to take a seat right there.
The chamber erupted in laughter at Welch's comment and the clip has since become a viral hit.
