Tensions between the United States and Iran are soaring after Iran launched a revenge attack on the US following last week's assassination of Qassem Soleimani.
Iran is reported to have launched more than a dozen missiles on a military airbase in Iraq. It is unclear how many people have died in the attack but Donald Trump did state in an early morning tweet that 'all is well' and assessment of the casualties and damages was 'so far, so good!'
Despite Trump's apparent upbeat tone about the events it paints a grave picture for international relations at the start of the new decade and the fears of an escalating conflict between the two nations are only heightening as the days go by.
It remains to be seen what the US will do in response but Trump has said that he doesn't wish to start a war, which may be wishful thinking at this stage.
Trump has held long protruded fear of another world war breaking out, which began long before he was elected as president.
Way back in 2013, when he was still a reality television personality and Barack Obama was still in the White House, Trump posted a tweet lamenting Obama's leadership and how it could 'unknowingly lead us into World War III.'
Now, we can't speculate as to whether a global war will break out but the irony of this tweet from Trump, given current events is startling.
In the time-honoured tradition of 'there is a Trump tweet for everything,' this 2013 post has gone viral with many people flabbergasted at the president's incredibly short memory.
Or perhaps Trump was just trying to warn us about what he was going to do in the future.
It slightly less worrying news, Iran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has declared in a tweet that Iran doesn't seek a war with the United States and the missile launch was merely an act of self-defence.
