Donald Trump revealed he was set to make a “major announcement” Sunday morning, jumping on Twitter to tease the 'big reveal' to his followers as if it was simply the next episode of his old reality show The Apprentice.

Taking to Twitter, the US president wrote:

Something very big has just happened!

The announcement which media began reporting before Trump delivered his speech was that Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had been killed by a US military raid in northern Syria.

The president's statement took place shortly after 1pm GMT today where he told reporters:

He died like a dog. He died like a coward. The world is now a much safer place. God bless America.

According to the president, Baghdadi was located in his a Syrian safe house with an array of tunnels. 11 young children were moved from the house, uninjured as the US made their move. Baghdadi himself died after igniting a suicide vest as he attempted to escape via a tunnel with his three children who also tragically died alongside him. The explosion caused the tunnel to collapse and tests were carried out upon the Isis leader's remains before he was officially identified.

Trump also added that the US did not suffer any causalities during the mission, although a US dog was injured.

For such big news, people had a lot of thoughts about the initial manner in which he 'teased' the announcement

Others thought this was the perfect opportunity for jokes and wishful thinking

Trump was also reminded not to take credit for killing Baghdadi, if that is what the announcement is about, just in case his previous Obama bashing came back to haunt him.
