A video of a young woman being violently restrained by police on a beach in New Jersey has gone viral.
The arrest took place on 27 May on Memorial Day weekend, when young mother Emily Weinman, 20, from Philadelphia was approached by the police on suspicion of drinking alcohol underage.
In the 54 second clip, police are seen repeatedly punching Weinman in the head, and then violently restraining her.
One female police officer can be heard shouting "stop resisting" repeatedly at Weinman.
In response, Weinman can be heard shouting: 'I'm not resisting. I didn't do anything wrong.'
The clip has been posted to Twitter by a witness, where it has accrued 3.13 million views. Weinman also posted the clip to Facebook, but it has since deleted it.
Weinman wrote in the original Facebook post that she was at the beach with her "daughter, her father and my friend" and that she had alcohol even though she was underage, according to the New York Post,
The police then breathalysed her and her friend, and took their ages, she reportedly wrote in the now-deleted Facebook post.
It came back negative. I told them I wasn’t drinking and the alcohol was clearly closed/sealed, which the cops seen.
She then said that the police wouldn't leave them alone, and even followed her when she left to make a phone call on her mobile phone.
I asked them don’t they have something better to do as cops than to stop people for underage drinking on the beach, saying to that there’s so much more serious stuff going on... the cop said, "I was gonna let you go but now I’ll write you up" and he asked my name.
In her post, she then alleged that the officers said they would arrest her despite the fact her 18-month-old daughter was present.
When they attempted to restrain her, she tripped and fell and said that the police then "smasher my head into the sand".
Weinmen finished her post by saying:
This whole situation was handled wrongly and blew out of proportion all because these pigs didn’t do their jobs the way they were TRAINED to do so.
The police in the video are from the Wildwood Police Department in New Jersey, and the altercation took place on a beach near East Schellinger Avenue.
Since the video's release, the department have launched a probe into the incident. Writing in a Facebook post, they said:
An Internal Affairs Investigation was immediately initiated into this matter and the involved officers have been reassigned to administrative duty pending the outcome of a full and thorough investigation.
