A new Opinium/Observer poll puts Labour seven points ahead of the Conservatives.
According to the Observer, if such a result was replicated at the general election, Ed Miliband's party would win an overall majority of 80 seats.
In slightly tempering news for Labour, however, which has been energised by what it sees as George Osborne's strategic mistake in his Autumn Statement, Miliband still suffers from an approval rating only Nick Clegg can rival.
