A white woman has come under fire on social media after calling a Black man a “f**khead” and telling him to “get out of here” for the simple act of taking pictures of her home.

(To clarify, it’s not illegal to take photos of someone’s home if you do it while in a public space like a street or footpath.)

The woman – identified only as Margie – followed the man down the street and said “we’re going to talk”.

The unidentified man repeatedly tried to calmly walk away and said:

We’re not going to talk. You’re going to do your thing and I’m going to do my thing. That’s the way it works. Have a nice day.

When called out by some passersby, who were filming the incident, Margie turned to them and said:

Oh, you’re having a problem with this?

Speaking to KDVR, the woman said she decided to question the man because she worried the pictures he took could be used for a crime:

I didn't say I lived here, because I didn't want him to know that. I said, 'What are you doing? Why are you taking pictures of that house?' All he had to do is saying something like, 'Oh I think it's really pretty,' or something.

Referencing the confrontation with the people filming the incident, Margie added:

The people behind thought that I was doing it because he was Black. It wasn't because he was Black, it was because he was taking pictures of our house.

The woman who took the video – identified only as Beth, according to Denver7 – said she took the video because she “wanted people to know that it’s happening”:

I don’t want people to have an excuse for ignorance anymore. Racism is still real, it’s still everywhere and I’m a white person with a camera, so when I see it, I have to call it out.

The video was initially uploaded to Reddit and then soon made its way to Twitter, where it received over 3million views.

Many sided with the man:

Then white people shared their countless stories of taking photos of other people’s houses, all without getting harassed about it:
