Why people can never be trusted in eight charts

Capital punishment is consistently held up as the reason for why we need representative democracies. Here's why:

YouGov interviewed 1,942 adults between August 11 and 12 for their views on the death penalty, as the UK marked 50 years since the last executions in Britain.

So far, nothing too unexpected. But pollsters also asked respondents their views on different methods of capital punishment for people convicted of serious crimes, such as murder.

The results are staggering.

Yes, that's right, one in ten Ukip supporters would "strongly approve" of convicted murderers being beheaded, while one in six (six) would strongly approve of them being gassed.

Let's just all think about that one quietly for a bit.
