Although they are likely to attract criticism, the "small number" of new masts being put up in England's national parks to boost internet coverage and introduce 4G are primarily being made for the benefit of people who live and work in the parks.

So, as Paul Hamblin, director of National Parks England, says: "If people want to ensure their phone is switched off, that is their choice.”
