However, at the top of the receipt, they were described as ‘two very annoying Asians.’
An image of the receipt was said to have been shared on Snapchat complete with a caption, which appears to have come from the manager, which reads ‘omg I love my staff’ complete with three crying laughing emojis.
The Daily Mail reports that a member of staff called out the manager for his ‘unprofessional and inappropriate’ behaviour.
The Mail adds that at least one member of staff confronted the manager over the joke but he dismissed them and told them to ‘get a grip’ and that it was ‘just a joke.’
However, the manager has since backed down and offered an apology.
Speaking to the Mail he said, “I personally wish to apologise for the offence and hurt caused. I’m deeply disappointed and embarrassed at my actions as they go against everything I pride myself on.”
He added: “I’ve been a business owner in the area for more than six years, personally and professionally invested in diversity. I’m deeply disappointed and embarrassed at my actions as they go against everything I pride myself on. Internally, my team and I will do better to ensure we uphold the diversity and inclusivity that is at our core.”
Yahoo adds that the picture was shared on Snapchat by a man named Shay Hayston, who is a part-owner of the No. 5 Cafe and The Stand, a popular LGBTQ+ venue in Brisbane. It was then shared on Instagram by a local man named Alec Madara who wanted to highlight the controversy.
A statement shared by The Stand states: “Many of us know the people involved in this incident. They have in the past done incredible things for our community. However, they have made a very ignorant mistake. A mistake they must learn from, apologise and educate themselves on.”
