Trump and Musk reunite at Charlie Kirk memorial months after bitter breakup

US president Donald Trump and his former aide Elon Musk both attended the funeral of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Sunday, and there’s now talk online that the assassinated Turning Point USA founder’s hopes of reconciliation between the two men may now be realised.
The service for the late Trump supporter, who was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University earlier this month, took place at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, and featured speeches from his widow Erika, as well as Trump, vice president JD Vance and broadcaster Tucker Carlson.
And at one point, Trump and Musk were seen sat together and having a brief, friendly conversation, something the White House noted by sharing a picture of the two of them with the caption: “POTUS x @ElonMusk. For Charlie.”
Musk shared a similar message on his own account:
It’s a pretty significant change of heart from the two businessmen, after Musk took aim at Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ and claimed the Republican was in the Epstein Files, while the president said the Twitter/X owner was a “man who has lost his mind”.
Amid the spat, Kirk took to Twitter/X at the time to write that he hoped “Elon and Trump reconcile and do so privately”, adding that it would be “good for the country and the world if they do”.
The political commentator shared the tweet alongside his interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, in which he said: “It’s a tough thing to watch, this public feud. I actually think they’re going to reconcile at some point, though, because deep down, I would like to believe they both want the same thing.”
The remarks have since resurfaced on social media following the funeral, when the pair were spotted sitting together and having a friendly conversation:
“Charlie was right,” commented another:
In a further tweet which suggests a possible shift in opinion from Musk, the Tesla boss reposted a clip from his interview with author and commentator Jordan Peterson last year in which he said there was “tremendous wisdom in ‘turn the other cheek’”.
