Twitter user @foolishnessfly2 tweeted these pictures last week, supposedly showing thousands of pounds worth of Apple gear dumped in a bathtub.
At time of writing, the tweet has been retweeted more than 18,000 times and widely covered, on the assumption that a woman had got revenge on her cheating boyfriend by destroying his iMac, iPad, iPhones and MacBooks.
However, the tweet, written in Japanese (duh) is actually pretty ambiguous. Literally, it reads:
The cheating was discovered, but isn't it harsh to dump all electronic items in the bath?
The assumptions made about the picture say a lot about gender and technology. Of course this must be a classic woman scorned story, there's no other explanation, surely a woman can't own Apple products, or have cheated on her partner.
In a separate tweet, @foolishnessfly2 said:
This translates as:
The ability of foreigners to spread news is amazing.
