We know that even at face value, there's a quite a lot that's different about British prime minister David Cameron and US president Barack Obama.

But we've never seen the difference in public opinion towards the two leaders captured quite so perfectly before.

An image has been circulating since midnight which puts two festive messages from the pair side by side.

One is a 'Merry Christmas' from Obama and his family, and one is a 'Happy New Year' tweet from the prime minister.

There's nothing out of the ordinary about the tweets - but take a look at the replies and comments. We even had to blur out a really nasty one:
