Did you know that roughly 76 per cent of the satellites orbiting the Earth are junk? We didn’t.
Thanks to a visualisation by Richie Carmichael, an Esri software developer, you can now see just how many man-made objects are up there.
Richie’s visualisation allows users to highlight satellites by toggling certain filters, including their country of origin, the date they were launched and whether they are still functioning.
You can also view the current locations of the 14,016 satellites, and their trajectories - where they will be in an hour, a day or a week.
It’s astounding, and truly worth a visit.
