CNN host faces backlash after Kamala Harris speech for confusing Beyoncé with Mary J Blige

You might recognise Van Jones from that viral clip of him crying with relief after Trump’s defeat was announced.

The clip of the CNN host in tears elicited a really positive reaction online.

But, now, he’s fallen out of favour with people on the internet.

Jones mistakenly identified the song Kamala Harris walked out to before her victory speech on Saturday.

He confused Beyoncé for Mary J Blige.

On CNN, he said: “First of all, she walked out to Beyoncé. Drop mic.”

Jones continued: “The fact that somebody that’s going to be in the White House can walk out authentically to Beyoncé was amazing.”

Harris actually walked out to ‘Work That’ by Mary J Blige.

People dragged him for this mistake.

Jones apologised and corrected himself about the Mary J Blige mishap while still live on air.

And it's not the first time this week he's come under fire. After the aforementioned clip of him just after Biden was declared the winner, some previous comments of his resurfaced.

In 2016, he received backlash for a comment made about Michelle Obama.

After Obama's DNC speech, Jones said: "Every American has to appreciate what it means for a woman like her to have grown up in Chicago, dark-skinned, not particularly – not the classically beautiful woman according to the theme of that time."

He was criticised for this and later clarified.
